Excess keratinization causes the skin texture to be rough and dull. A skin condition that will affect most skin in a minor or major way, excess keratinization is the primary cause of closed or open comedones. The pilosebaceous duct entrance becomes blocked with dead skin cells that have not desquamated efficiently. This can be due to any number of factors; one that should be considered is the poor dissolution of corneodesmosomes in the granular layer. CR+ WASH with high ceramide content and enough percentage of free water throughout the epidermis will improve the desquamation of the dead cell thus smoothing the texture of the skin.

Granular is where the enzyme activity completes the keratinization process, preparing the keratinocyte for desquamation. pH balance (acidic or alkaline) plays a very important role in the desquamation process. Impaired desquamation process will affect the integrity of the stratum corneum (first line of defense in the skin) clogged pores, hyper keratinization, TEWL (trans epidermal water loss). The balance of pH also helps significantly in absorption of nutritional ingredient applied on the skin. CR+ TONE works well balancing the pH of skin improving both desquamation and absorption of nutrients.

The enzyme tyrosinase plays a key role in melanin synthesis causing skin pigmentation and needs an oxidizing atmosphere to work. CR+ BRIGHT can inhibit the enzyme tyrosinase and with high antioxidants it can reduce the oxidizing atmosphere thus skin pigmentation will be reduced.

The fluids found on the surface of the skin , (acid mantle) are secreted from the sebaceous and sudiferous glands, and in conjunction with the epidermic lipids (bilayers) and the natural moisturizing factor (NMF) make up the first line of skin barrier defense and is the external factor. By slowing down trans epidermal water loss (TEWL) the HA (Hyaluronic Acid) plays a major role in retaining water, slowing evaporation and therefore maintaining epidermal hydration. CR+ FILL supports the dermal fibers (collagen & elastin) and work in synergy to preserve fluid and nutritional balance.

Any shortage in the nutrients (EFAs, Proteins, Minerals, Vitamins) a cell requires to function will mean a cell is compromised through weakened cell membranes, lipid peroxidation and cellular inflammation will result, each preventing normal function. The formation of the pigment melanin is entirely dependent on UVR exposure. There are 5 intervention points in the process of melanogenesis – UVR – MSH – Tyrosinase – L Dopa – Melanosome. After mitosis, the Keratinocyte begin a journey of terminal differentiation forming some of the lines of skin barrier defense.
